Stefano Pioli and Claudio Ranieri have emerged as the two favourites to succeed Luciano Spalletti as Italy manager after the resignation sportnews

Despite announcing his resignation, Spalletti was still in charge of the Moldova game before immediately negotiating terms of his departure.

Italian media outlet Sky Sport Italia reports that. The favourites to take over are former AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli and former Roma manager Claudio Ranieri. 

Pioli, who currently manages Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. And has led Milan to Serie A titles and a Champions League semi-final, is seen as a more likely option at the moment.

Ranieri, who has just moved up from his position as Roma manager to an advisory role at the club is a favourite. With Italian Football Federation president Gabriele Gravina, particularly given his vast experience and illustrious career with Leicester City.

In addition to these two favorites, there are also the names of several former national players in the running. Such as Daniele De Rossi, Fabio Cannavaro and Gennaro Gattuso.
